Grade 7 will be working on a planet project that links science, math and technology. Find the link to the spreadsheet on the Sky Drive in the Blogroll below under “Astronomy Project – Grade 7“.
Astronomy Project
May 8th, 2012Microsoft Live@edu
December 13th, 2011In an effort to provide better access to applications that our students need for homework and projects, we have enrolled our middle school students in a St. Peter School account for Microsoft Office’s online programs. This is a service that Microsoft offers free to schools where students are assigned an in house email account (they cannot send or receive any email from persons not enrolled in our school account). When they log on to this account then can then access Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point. Students do not need Microsoft Office on their computer in order to use these online applications. Everything they create is stored online and can be accessed from any computer they log in to. They can share their work with me (or other students if they are doing group work) and I can then proofread, edit, and corrrect their work from my computer.
We are trying this out with Power Point book reports that the students were assigned earlier this month and I am excited to see the results!
I will have the link to the Windows Live sign in screen added to the top of my web page soon - but for now students can click here to get to the page.
Scholastic Book Orders
September 16th, 2011The Middle School students were given Scholastic Book Club flyers this week. If anyone would like to place an order please do so by Friday, September 23. If you would like to place the order online at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs, this is your Class Activation Code:
J6WRQ
Parents will need this for their initial account setup when they register online. Every time a parent orders online, the class gets a $3.00 coupon. It’s a great way for us to build our classroom library! If you decide to send the order in to school instead, please make the check out to Scholastic, or send cash.
Students will soon be required to pick books for outside reading, and while I have a small library in the classroom, and the school library books are available to them, this might be an opportunity for them to pick exactly the book the want to read.
Welcome Back!
August 31st, 2011
Hope everyone is excited for the start of the school year! I’m looking forward to the having the sixth grade homeroom and teaching literature to the middle school. Of course my computer classes and especially my religion classes are always fun and rewarding to teach. I am really looking forward to teaching all the subjects I love! Keep checking the blog for news on these subjects and all sixth grade news. Keep in mind that you can post comments on the blog. They won’t show up immediately because I first have to approve them. Questions can be sent to my email by clicking on the link at the top of the page.
Operation Christmas Child
November 23rd, 2010
Our middle school students had a great time wrapping the gifts they had purchased for needy children around the world. The shoe boxes full of gifts were delivered to a drop off site in North Kingstown, and from there they will continue their journey until they reach their destinations in time for Christmas. The students included “All About Me” sheets with their packages that gave our school address and some information about the senders. We hope we will someday hear back from a recipient! Click here for more photos of the students preparing their boxes.
